SPORTS PROGRAMMING FOR AN INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE
Each year, cable programmers from Tokyo to Tel Aviv buy programming from ESPN based upon their region’s sports culture and fan interest. This 72-page catalogue provides them with a “menu” of programs from which they can pick and choose.
Because the final programming (and, as a result, the final copy) would not be available until the last minute, we had to come up with a design that would allow us to easily and quickly layout the catalogue. We created a very structured grid with a single large image on the left-hand page and the copy on the right-hand page in a 2-column grid.
In order to create emphasis and quickly identify each sport, we also included a bold banner across the top of each page and a photographic icon in the upper right-hand corner. And since the budget only allowed for 2-color printing on the inside, we liberally used tints and duotones to give the catalogue plenty of visual interest.
